Description

This 3rd edition of the Rome Foundation MDCP allows us to fully address the dimensionality of clinical decision-making. Each diagnosis contains complete case presentations from mild to severe, and incorporates the five MDCP components.

It covers a broad spectrum of clinical presentations seen by gastroenterologists and primary care clinicians. The chapters follow the Rome IV classification system for adults and children on the esophageal, gastroduodenal, biliary, bowel, anorectal and CNS disorders.

Each diagnosis contains complete case presentations from mild to severe, and it incorporates the five MDCP components.

These include:

  • Category A:  The Rome IV diagnosis
  • Category B: A sub-classification of the diagnosis leading to more specific treatments
  • Category C: The personal impact of the disorder on the patient
  • Category D: Psychosocial influences
  • Category E: Physiological abnormalities or biomarkers

This framework is intuitively clear, and the organizational approach is both pragmatic and useful.

With this new edition, we present 19 new case-based learning modules for a total of 86 cases covering the full spectrum of DGBI for adults and children.

The authors, members of the Rome Foundation Board of Directors, are an international group of key opinion leaders who are highly skilled in developing these new cases, updating all previous ones, and incorporating only the best and most recent treatments.

Some of the new features include:

  1. More multicultural issues
  2. Broader range of clinical presentations from mild to severe
  3. More real-life overlap of dual diagnoses such as IBS with functional dyspepsia, IBD-IBS, fecal incontinence, IBS, centrally mediated abdominal pain with functional constipation, celiac disease with IBS and more
  4. Inclusion of dietary complications such as Avoidance Restrictive Food Intolerance Disorder (ARFID)
  5. A case of COVID-19 post-infection IBS
